Well, the universe has given us a spider. Birdbones has adopted a tarantula in need of a home from a West-Coast-bound family member. Our girl’s name is Ebony Dark’ness Dementia Raven Way, in honor of the most iconic goff in literary history. Also known as Ebony, Enoby, Spider Queen, and various other dumb combos. We have to feed her crickets, who we also love (such tiny dark eyes), and who are short-lived pets before they go to the Other Place (Enoby’s cage). She’s thicc and wise and beautiful.
This spring, the back-patio doors of the Birdbones house were covered in webs and common house spiders. Their matriarch was the obviously named Charlotte. For a month and a half, she and her daughters peopled the world with so many egg sacs and millions of tiny babies who spilled out of them. They built their intricate webs in our plants and crawled everywhere with their tapered, pretty tortoiseshell legs.
During that time, we researched spiders’ symbolism in a home. These industrious little weavers mean good fortune, especially on the prosperity front, since they’re always diligently working. Charlotte and her children eventually passed on with the summer, but we’re lucky to now have a big one of their sisters keeping us company while we’re hard at work, too, creating Birdbones’s newest offerings.
Please join us in welcoming Spider Queen Ebony to the Birdbones family. 🖤
